mindspan helps you understand the biology behind how your brain carries you through daily life. We take your privacy seriously, and we wrote this in plain language so you can actually read it.
Who we are
mindspan ("mindspan," "we," "us") operates the website at joinmindspan.com and the related waitlist and lead forms. You can reach us any time at hello@joinmindspan.com. Your use of mindspan is also governed by our Terms of Service.
What we collect
Today, before we have launched our blood panel to the public, the information we collect is limited:
- Contact details you give us — your email address, and sometimes your first name and state — when you join our waitlist or submit a form (including forms served inside Meta/Instagram).
- Basic usage data — standard technical information such as your device type, browser, and general location, collected by our hosting and analytics providers to keep the site working and understand what resonates.
When our blood panel and personalized report become available, we will collect additional information you choose to provide (such as intake responses and, through our laboratory partners, lab results). That collection will be governed by an updated policy and its own consent, presented to you before any such information is gathered.
How we use it
- To tell you when mindspan becomes available in your state, and to respond to you.
- To operate, secure, and improve the website and our offering.
- To measure and improve our advertising — for example, understanding which messages lead people to sign up.
We do not send unsolicited marketing beyond what you signed up for, and you can unsubscribe from any message in one click.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run mindspan, and only as needed:
- Hosting & database — providers such as Vercel and Supabase store the site and your contact details securely.
- Advertising platforms — when you submit a form through Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Meta processes that submission under its own terms and shares it with us; we may also use advertising tools to measure campaign performance.
- Email delivery — a provider that sends the messages you asked to receive.
- Legal — if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
We do not share your information with employers or insurers.
A note on health information
mindspan is a wellness service, not a medical diagnosis, and today we do not collect health information through this site. If and when we offer clinical services, any health-related information will receive additional protections and its own consent. Optional genetic testing, if offered in the future, will carry its own separate consent and safeguards.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message.
- Ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@joinmindspan.com.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; we honor those rights.
Data retention & security
We keep your contact details for as long as you are on our waitlist or interested in mindspan, and we delete them on request. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, though no method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure.
Children
mindspan is intended for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Health data & HIPAA
mindspan is a consumer wellness service, not a covered entity under HIPAA. Even so, once our panel is live we hold health information to HIPAA-aligned standards because we believe it deserves the highest level of care:
- Health data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access to identifiable health data is limited to authorized personnel who need it to deliver your report.
- We put appropriate data-protection agreements in place with the providers who help us handle health information — our database, payment, laboratory, and any automated document-reading tools.
- Advertising and third-party tracking are never placed on pages that display your results.
- We minimize the identifying information shared with any automated tool used to help read your laboratory documents.
Your Optimism Biology Report is for informational and educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It uses optimism-optimized reference ranges that may differ from standard clinical ranges. Always consult a licensed physician before acting on anything in it.
HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices
This section serves as mindspan's Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). It describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed, and how you can access that information. Please review it carefully.
Uses and disclosures of your protected health information (PHI). We may use and disclose your PHI, without separate written authorization, to:
- Treatment — provide your lab order, deliver your results, and coordinate follow-up with the clinician who reviews your intake or signs your lab requisition.
- Payment — process your panel purchase and bill or reimburse for laboratory services.
- Healthcare operations — quality assurance, personnel training, and improvement of our service.
- As required by law — when disclosure is mandated by federal, state, or local law (subpoena, public-health reporting, and similar).
Any other use or disclosure of your PHI requires your written authorization, which you may revoke at any time. We will never sell your PHI, and we do not use it for marketing without your explicit consent.
Your rights regarding your PHI. You have the right to inspect and copy your PHI; request an amendment if you believe a record is incorrect; receive an accounting of disclosures we have made in the prior six years; request restrictions on certain uses and disclosures (we accommodate reasonable requests where feasible); request confidential communications by alternative means; receive a paper copy of this Notice on request; and file a complaint without retaliation.
Our duties. We are required by law to maintain the privacy of your PHI and to provide you with this Notice; to abide by the terms of the Notice currently in effect; and to notify you in the event of a breach of unsecured PHI affecting your information. We reserve the right to change this Notice; revised versions are posted on this page and become effective for all PHI we maintain.
Contact and complaints. To exercise any of these rights, request a paper copy of this Notice, or file a complaint, email hello@joinmindspan.com (Attn: Privacy Officer). You may also file a complaint directly with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights at hhs.gov/ocr/complaints. We will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as mindspan grows — especially as we launch the panel and report. When we do, we will revise the effective date above, and for material changes we will make reasonable efforts to let you know.
